After a 58-55 loss against Longview Christian this past Saturday, the Panthers looked to defend home court Monday in a non-district game against Tyler. Both teams entering this contest had 0-1 records, and were looking for their first win on the season. Tyler came out of the gates fast scoring the first 8 points of the game, and held off a Spring Hill run that cut the lead down to 8-6. The Lions carried this momentum to finish out the quarter with a 24-12 lead. The lead would grow up to 18 points during the second quarter, until the Panthers cut it down to a 14 point lead before the half finished. Throughout the game Spring Hill relied heavily on the three-point shot with 18 of their 25 points coming from 3 point land. Senior Tayler Riehemann led the team with three triples, while Jack Beckett, Davaunte Powers, and Luke Hurst were right behind him with one each. Ashad Walker for the Lions would carry the team during the 3rd and give the Lions a 19 point lead before Riehemann cut into lead with a three pointer and a trip to the free throw line. Tyler’s Bryson Hill’s hot streak during the fourth would bring the Lions over the finish line with an impressive 75-49 victory. Riehemann would finish the game with 23 points, and would lead the Panthers in scoring, Hurst was next in line with 11 points. The Tyler Lions improved to 1-1 on the season with this win, while Spring Hill fell to 0-2. Starting tomorrow the Panthers will look to turn it around as they begin the Union Grove tournament.
