Newton with the Narrative
Coach Matthew Newton attended Tarkington High School in Cleveland, Texas, and East Texas Baptist University for college. He has previously coached at Henderson, Longview, and Hallsville. This is Newton’s third year as a health teacher, football, and track coach. He coaches wide receivers for football and pole vaulting for the track. Coach Newton’s inspiration to coach came from a love of sports growing up and a variety of coaches that invested in his athletic career to help form who he is today. Coach Newton said the best part of his job is, “getting to interact and invest in the students that we have at Spring Hill. I enjoy seeing us work together as a team and fighting to accomplish our goals.” One of Coach Newton’s favorite stories about coaching is, “In 2010, I was coaching in Henderson and we made it to the state championship game at AT&T Stadium. We were the underdogs against a very talented Chapel Hill team and fought them hard and won 28-21.” Newton shared his favorite quote with me which is also a line of scripture, ‘Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all other things shall be added to you.’ Matthew 6:33.
