A Night to Shine

A Night to Shine

February 12 is no ordinary Friday, and The Tim Tebow Foundation, in partnership with New Beginnings Baptist Church, will honor some extraordinary youth from the community with the annual Night To Shine Special Needs Prom. The event will take place from 5-7pm at New Beginnings Baptist Church.

“I was so excited when they asked me if the drumline could come and cheer them on.” Senior Jackson Massey said. “Since the pandemic won’t let them experience a real prom, being able to make noise for them will be a great experience.”

Although this event takes place yearly, 2021 has some special circumstances in itself. Due to the pandemic and the fragile population of the guests attending, This year’s dancing and the tradition promenade is replaced with an outdoor drive-thru experience.

“Being able to come support this group of kids is very important especially during this time,” Sophomore Carson Coleman said. “the pandemic has changed everything this year and I think it’s really cool we are going to be able to do this for them.”

This night provides an opportunity for the community to be of service to this special population of students and to minister on behalf of their church.

“The meeting on February 10 is at 5:15 and is to help everyone understand their role and expectation on Friday.” Coordinator Melissa Haney said. “It will give an opportunity for you to ask questions and see where you will be.”

Although The special-needs prom is an outreach organized by the church,  the Leadership Club at Spring Hill Jr High, under the direction of Melissa Haney, Took on the role of soliciting school organizations to attend.

“Spring Hill varsity cheer Was so excited when we were contacted by Melissa Haney and asked to participate,” Coach Amy Blalock said. “ We are always looking for opportunities to spread school spirit throughout the community. I am pleased that band members and student council will also participate making this a true community service.”

According to Haney there is still time if your organization would like to help.

“We are having to limit the number due to the traffic back up potential on George Richey.” Haney said. “If you would like to come, register here: https://forms.gle/vkbVZNvECearZdtM7
