Lightning caused delays in the 7:30 pm start of the Panther’s season opener at Gladewater’s Jack V. Murphy-Bear Stadium Friday, but fans waited it out for an 8:00 pm start of Head Coach and Athletic Director Jonny Louvier’s debut as the lead for the Panthers. Louvier, the former offensive coordinator for the Bears, saw his former team open with a strong start- a 21-0 lead after one quarter. Michael Marrs’  1-yard run before the half got “Blue” on the board, but Gladewater’s  D.J. Allen jetted for the end zone just 52 seconds later. Eligia Carter added the two-pointer closing the half at 29-6. Louvier refocused the Panthers at the half when the team came back and dominated the third period, scoring 13 unanswered points.

Gage White threw for two touchdowns in the game and completed 10 passes for a total of 182 yards. Tyrese Jones helped raise the numbers for the Panthers with two touchdowns and four connections with White for a total of 115 yards for the night. Davante Powers put up the Panther’s final points for the night with a 1-yard run.

The Panthers will play the first home game of the 2019 season Friday, September 6 with kickoff at 7:30 pm.
