Once again the most worthy opponent on April 18 for the Track and Field events was the weather. The rain let up allowing some events to start after several delays, but then the sky broke open again as athletes ran for cover for a second time. The day ended with all events completed, a few soaked sneakers, and many happy Panthers.

The boys’ team pulled off a 3rd place win overall in points for the meet with several athletes moving on to the Regional meet in Commerce, set for April 26-27. It was a good day for runners, placing in 5 events. Coach Jordan Alford could be heard cheering around the track, “Keep it up! This is our track!” And, she was right. Kaden Barlow breezed past the competition for 1st in the 1600m while teammate Nick Bodenheimer was close behind for 3rd. Barlow also took 1st in the 3200 m with Nick Bodenheimer at 2nd and Marshall Bodenheimer in 3rd. Cameron Rhodes finished 3rd in the 110m Hurdles and Austin Martin finished strong for 2nd in the 800m.

Zach Henry was also a qualifier in the meet bring home two 2nd place victories- 400m and Pole Vault as well as a 3rd place in the 4×400 relay with teammates Jay and Vencent Rockwell and Austin Martin. The girls 4×100 brought in 3rd as well with Ashlee Blake, Tai Reed , Felicity Jacobs and Azaria Jones.

Coaches, Booster Club, Faculty and Families of Panther Nation all came together to host this soggy event with traditional SHISD hospitality, despite the downpours. Additionally, Superintendent, Dr. Guidry, as well as new Athletic Director Johnny Louvier both braved the weather to come out and cheer the Panthers on from the sidelines.
