Cell phones have been a dream come true ever since the first one was created; in 1973 the first ever cell phone call was made by Marty Cooper, a Motorola engineer. Fast forward several years later and the iPhone comes out in 2007. Consumers were able to surf the web, Play iTunes, and take pictures. Steve Jobs, the creator of Apple, called the device a “revolutionary mobile phone”.

Mobile phones have evolved drastically in just the past few years. These small devices have become a part of our everyday lives. The changes have been from big to small and then back to big again. Price has evolved significantly as well. the first phones with LED screens had 30 minutes of talk time, and cost almost $4000. Crazy right? Next is the clam shell, it was created in the late 80’s. It had a red LED screen display, a 12 button keypad, and was around $2500. crazy right? Next is the clam shell, it was created in the late 80’s. It had a red LED screen display, a 12 button keypad, and was around $2500. The “Candy bar” came out next which is a Nokia. It was named this because of the size and shape, it resembled a candy bar. Years later the first iPhone came out it had Internet browser, camera, iTunes, messaging, and the rest is history!

But, why do we care? Because our phone is directly related to our identity, It is our purse, wallet, and style all rolled into one. Most Spring Hill students have a phone, my research showed the most popular among Panthers are the Apple products. These changes to our cellular devices will most likely continue until the end of time. What does this mean? Our phones might one day be razor-thin and use holographs to project full 3D depictions of rooms and operate 100% on VR technology. Cell phone users should be excited as many new innovations to this tech are coming within the next 10 years!
