From the moment you walk into school on the Friday of the Panthers-Roughnecks game, you can tell that something is different. There’s a buzz as you walk in the halls. The football players holding themselves up higher as they strut around the school. You can tell that the game to be played later that day, really matters. The band plays with more power, the players hit each other harder. There has always been a different atmosphere surrounding White Oak week.

While the amount of school spirit surrounding this week is felt by many, including myself, I feel as if some people do not appreciate the rivalry- for what it’s worth. There needs to be a school-wide sense of spirit among the student body every week, but particularly this one. There will be very few other opportunities in your lifetime to be a part of a family-like group like the one we have here at Spring Hill ISD. Do not let this opportunity pass you by and get out there and support!

This long-standing rivalry has been a staple in the high school experience for 50 years, make it a staple in yours. This game is the one time of the year where we put our cliques, political and personal differences aside and come together for a common cause. Whether you come to support the football team, the band, or want to be with friends, show up and be loud. Paint your face, bring things to make noise, yell, or cheer. Whatever it is, you need to do your part in being #BetterInBlue!
